What is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery refers to procedures such as extracting teeth within your mouth. This can arise from:
- A broken tooth that can’t be repaired by a simple filling or crown
- Severe tooth decay
- An abscess on your gum from an infected tooth
- Loose tooth – Usually this is caused by Gum disease
- Impacted wisdom tooth
- Crowded teeth
At DCO we carry out more specialised oral surgery procedures, allowing us to remove teeth that general dentists may not be able to.

Do I need a referral to be seen for oral surgery?
If you have your own dentist then we would advise asking them to refer you for treatment. This ensures the best joined up care.
Does oral surgery hurt?
As with many dental procedures we use local anaesthetic to numb the area allowing treatment to be carried out comfortably. Post operative pain can usually be addressed with over the counter analgesics.
